How many entire professional Christian institutional franchises are built on a foundation that one must be "born again" in order to be saved? As we know the entirety of that concept is centered on a single hearsay rendition of a conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus recited in John 3:3.
Jesus is known "to be a teacher come from God". Jesus immediately replies: "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."[
Jesus spoke to Nicodemus in Aramaic , not HEBREW or Greek. Who ever wrote the book of John probably 50 years after the Resurrection used the phrase Aramaic men derish, literally “from the head” or "from above".
That is "BORN FROM ABOVE" not "Born again". Huge difference. That simply means that eternal life is bestowed from God. God bestowed salvation at the cross by the sacrifice of Jesus that "whosoever believes in HIM shall have everlasting life". Otherwise there is yet another massive contradiction ,not only in the Bible " but specifically in the book of John . How can the writer for the illiterate John the disciple ( who was probably deceased) have you saved only by belief in 3:16 but by being "Born again" as the in verse 3:3 ? Which is it?
Scholars like to say the Aramaic term Men Derish was a double entandre. That one meaning was "Again" . But that is not true. The original words reported used by Jesus was "Men Derish " and had no ambiguity. It meant "From above"
What happened next was the Aramaic was translated into Greek as "Anothen". Watch this closely so you don't miss the switch. . "Anothen: does have the double antandre

But it was not Greek in the original text. An entire Christian doctrine built on a translation to another word in the Greek from Aramaic with a double meaning that did not apply in the original Aramaic. It switched the meaning. It reminds me so much of the far greater translation error committed in the King James version where the Greek word ekklesia ( meaning "The called out" or the believers in Christ) was intentionally and brutally removed and replaced with a new word not in the original text at all,i.e. "Church" in order to facilitate control of the believers by an earthly hierarchy.
There is no "BORN AGAIN" requirement in the Bible. Eternal life was "BORN FROM ABOVE",bestowed down by the Father. Entire professional "churches" base their central doctrine on a mistranslation. Sad really. |
